New World Group and staffs donate HK4.2 million dollars for tsunami relief

(Hong Kong, January 19, 2005) The New World Development Company Limited (“New World Group” or “the Group” for short) (Stock code: 0017), the parent company of New World China Land Limited, today announced that the New World Group and its staffs donated 4.2 million HK dollars for tsunami relief among which 1.7 million HK dollars was donated by employees in Hong Kong and Mainland China in response to early donation of the New World Group made in the last two weeks, and another 1.7 million HK dollars was the equivalent donation contributed by the New World Group to the amount made by its employees and the rest by enterprises under New World Group. The fund would be used for supporting the UNICEF and other aid organizations to provide humanitarian aids to the disaster-hit countries. 

As for the heated response of employees to the appeal of New World Group for denotation, Dr. Henry Cheng, Managing Director of the New World Group, said, “The Group’s employees both in Hong Kong and Mainland China have shown great generosity and concern to people suffering from this century disaster, which impressed us greatly. The fund-raising activity drew hot responses and employees shared the same mind, offering great supports to disaster stricken population and fully demonstrating the mutual-help spirit.” 

Early this January, employees from various businesses of New World Group responded positively to the appeal of the Group for donation. Within only two weeks, about 1.7 million HK dollars had been raised and the Group had made equivalent donation to the amount contributed by the employees as it promised earlier. In the spirit of mutual help and caring, NWS Holdings Limited, Citybus and NWFB and other groups had also made corporate donations of 840,000 HK dollars to support the disaster relief work. 

The UNICEF would spend the fund raised in purchasing tents, medicines, felts, sweaters, water purification agents, oral anti-dehydration salts and water tanks, etc. for providing the disaster-affected countries lacking of resources with emergent humanitarian aids, so as to meet the urgent demands of disaster victims on food, dwelling, medicare as well as sanitation, etc.
