(10 November 2008, Hong Kong)  New World China Land Limited (“NWCL”; Hong Kong stock code: 917) held a national kickoff ceremony on November 8 in New World Central Park-view, Guangzhou for its corporate volunteer organization “NWCL Volunteer”.  Mr Kwan Chuk-fai, Director – Corporate Affairs of New World Development Company Limited (“NWD” or “the Group”; Hong Kong stock code: 17) and Mr Geng Shu-sen, Regional Director – Southern China of NWCL were hosting the ceremony.  Over a hundred of NWCL corporate volunteers from Guangzhou, Beijing, Shenyang, Jinan and Chengdu, and a team of 34 Hong Kong members of NWS Holdings Limited (“NWS Holdings”; Hong Kong stock code: 659, a member of NWD) corporate volunteer team, NWS Volunteer Alliance, also came to witness this special occasion. 

NWCL had setup its first team of corporate volunteer two years ago in Guangzhou under the name of “NWCL Volunteer Alliance”, the ceremony last Saturday signified the change of the name to “NWCL Volunteer” and the new logo and visual identity were unveiled.  NWCL Volunteer is the first such national volunteer organization among all the property developers in Mainland China, they strive to serve the communities in Beijing, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenyang, Jinan and their surrounding area. 

NWCL Volunteer had pledged during the ceremony to “Serve the community by helping the underprivileged, promoting neighbours watch out for and helping each other, reaching the goal of a better and harmonious community”.  Mr Kwan Chuk-fai, Director – Corporate Affairs of NWD had taken the opportunity to present outstanding Guangzhou staff volunteers of the past two years a Certificate of Recognition, as a gesture of appreciation of their selfless contribution. 

Mr Adrian Cheng Chi-kong, Executive Director of NWCL said of this new Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, “Volunteer work is one of the generally recognized area of people expressing their care and love for the community and as such, is highly regarded by the society.  NWCL has always been at the forefront in realizing our social responsibility, we encourage our staffs to participate in volunteer work so they could have the opportunity to personally helping others in needs.  In doing so they realize their higher value to society.” 

NWS Volunteer Alliance was formed in November 2001 and had more than 1,400 members comprising staff and their associates.  They have devoted over 44,684 hours in community service up to present in Hong Kong.  During the formative years of NWCL Volunteer, NWS Volunteer Alliance had shared much of their know-how and experiences through exchanges and visits. 


A total of 34 members of NWS Volunteer Alliance collaborated with the NWCL Volunteer, Mr Kwan Chuk Fai, Group Director—Corporate Affairs of New World Development and Mr Kenneth Geng, Regional Director—Southern China of New World China Land joined the visit too. 

After the ceremony, NWS Volunteer Alliance and NWCL Volunteer paid visits to the elderly residents in Fengyuan Street in Liwan District of Guangzhou under the arrangement of The Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council.  They had formed into small groups and visited the solitary elderly living in the neighbourhood.  The volunteers remarked their needs and presented them a pack of gift including a blanket, handkerchiefs and low-sugar food.
