New World China Land fully participates in Earth Hour 2009

(27 March 2009, Hong Kong)  Fourteen commercial projects under New World China Land Limited (“NWCL” or “the Group”, Hong Kong stock code: 917) across Mainland China will participate in the World Wild Fund for Nature “WWF” Earth Hour 2009 lights off event on 28 March, supporting the call for action for every individual, business, and community vote for Earth instead of global warming.  At 8:30pm tomorrow night, NWCL commercial projects including office buildings, shopping centers and hotels in Shenyang, Dalian, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Wuhan, Guangzhou and Shunde will switch off all the exterior lightings and landscape light for one hour.

Eight of the participating NWCL projects have been promoting the event since early March.  For landmark projects in bustling business district such as Beijing New World Centre, Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, and Dalian New World Tower, the exterior LED screens in these buildings have been put to effective use for displaying the Earth Hour promotion messages.   Guests arriving at Shanghai Belvedere Apartments have been reminded about the event upon their check-in with displays and leaflets.  NWCL Volunteers in Shenyang and Guangzhou have taken onto the street to handout leaflets to the public advising them to choose green earth.

Mr Adrian Cheng Chi-kong, Executive Director of NWCL, is very proud of the Group’s extensive involvement in Earth Hour, “We are a very visible national developer in Mainland China with many landmark commercial projects in high pedestrian traffic district.  As a responsible corporate citizen, we believe our concerted effort in supporting the Earth Hour event is a clear sign of our commitment in ecological initiatives and sustainable living.  We are obliged to take a leading position to encourage our home owners, tenants, staff and the general public to act together in the fight against global warming.”

Meanwhile, the mother company of NWCL, New World Development Company Limited (Hong Kong stock code: 17) and its subsidiaries and their managed property projects, including Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and some other residential properties, are pledged to support the Earth Hour event, showing their effort to protect the environment.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007 and this year WWF anticipate the event will attract over 80 countries, 1,000 cities and one billion people to participate, including China.  WWF think this will be a good opportunity for China cities like Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai to showoff to the world the kind of commitment the people are ready to make in environmental protection.
