K11 Art Shopping Center Grandly Opened at Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower

(28 June 2013 - Shanghai) Located in the prestigious Middle Huaihai Road area, Shanghai K11 Art Mall, an iconic commercial property under New World Development Company Limited (the "Group"; Stock Code: 917.HK), is officially opened to the public after a grand inauguration. Adrian Cheng, Executive Director and Joint General Manager of New World Group and Founder and Chairman of K11, officiated at the grand opening ceremony. 

Adrian Cheng said, "Shanghai K11 Art Mall is our brand's first art mall in the Mainland which merges art appreciation, experience of humanity and environmental consciousness, as well as shopping. Located in the bustling area of Shanghai, it boasts international brands, many of which have chosen the art mall as the location of their first flagship or concept store, which proves the success of the business model of K11. In the next few years, the K11 brand and its multi-cultural lifestyle zone will expand to 10 locations in the Mainland, namely Shenyang, Wuhan, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Guiyang, Guanggu, Qingdao, Haikou and Ningbo, spanning more than 160,000 sq m, with a nice blend of commerce and art integrated spaces." 

The opening event was a glamorous affair featuring an outdoor double-decker merry-go-round stage and creative performances and interactive sessions indoors. After a mega music box has been activated, guests released several thousand balloons to the sky, symbolising hopes and dreams.Renowned designers including Carrie Chow, Wang Yang and international fashion brands DOLCE&GABBANA, LOVE MOSCHINO, Max Mara, MIXR and PAULE KA, collaborated with K11 to create eight specially commissioned art horses. In addition to the works of young emerging artists from the K11 Art Village and the one printed with QR code, there are a total of 11 art horses in the mall, demonstrating creativity and fashion savviness which define Shanghai K11. 

To nurture local artists, K11 has set up the K11 Art Foundation and art villages in Guiyang and Wuhan for them to create and exhibit their artworks. Showcasing stellar artworks, the 3,000sqm chi K11 Art Space in Shanghai K11 allows the public to appreciate art. With an urban farm and a roof garden, Shanghai K11 is on the green bandwagon. Its green measures have also garnered it the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification by the U.S Green Building Council. 

Shanghai K11 Art  Mall, being K11’s second commercial project in Mainland China after Wuhan K11 Gourmet Tower, is situated at an iconic building--Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, which is the tallest building on Huaihai Road. At 38,000 sqm in retail area and 70,000 sqm in office space, Shanghai K11 is 100% leased. Shanghai K11 is an art mall that celebrates diversity. With 120 tenants in total, 30% of which are in the food and beverage industry while the rest are mainly in the fashion and accessories industry. Since its soft opening on 18 January 2013, the mall traffic is close to 1 million footfall per month and continuing to grow. In the next 5 to 6 years, the K11 brand and its multi-cultural lifestyle zone will expand to 11 locations in the Mainland, namely Beijing, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shenyang, Haikou, Ningbo and Guiyang.
