(2 April 2012, Hong Kong) New World China Land Limited (“NWCL” or “the Group”; HK Stock Code: 917) announced that it has fully supported Earth Hour organized by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) for four consecutive years. Over 20 nationwide property projects of NWCL joined hands with billions of people all over the world switching off lights at 8:00 pm for an hour on last Saturday (31 Mar 2012), demonstrating our determination to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment.
On the evening of 31 March 2012, about 50 property projects of NWCL jointly participated in this event by switching off the office lights and landscape illumination for an hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. NWCL also called for support from staff members and hundred thousands of residents and tenants to jointly take part in this event, encouraging them to support this lights-out event at home or office buildings respectively. The participating business projects include NWCL’s landmarks namely Beijing New World Centre, Dalian New World Plaza (Manhattan Tower), Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower and Tianjin New World Centre.
As a company committed to environmental protection and corporate social responsibility, NWCL has long been paying attention to environmental changes and fulfilling its responsibilities as a corporate citizen. .Early this year, New World Group established the Policies on Sustainable Development with a view to reducing the impacts on the environment to the minimal extent, and improving the life quality of communities, and thereby realizing sustainable development of the enterprise. As the property flagship of New World Group in Mainland Chona, NWCL continues to support Earth Hour and encourages the residents to pay greater attenetion to climate changes. Residents were also encouraged to save energy and reduce carbon emission, and adopt low-carbon living habit through a series of low-carbon activities.
The Earth Hour campaign was first launched by WWF in Sydney in 2007, which has become the world’s largest annual environment event. The event recalled people to turn off unnecessary lighting from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on the last Saturday of March, and to make an environment-related change, while mobilizing people they know to take action to protect our environment. This event has evolved rapidly into the worldwide pageant over the past years. Today, about 1.8 billion people of over 4,000 cities from total 130 countries, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Chinese Mainland, responded to the event.
