(7 January 2014, Beijing) New World China Land Limited (“New World China Land”; HK Stock Code: 917) was listed in the “2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking in China” by The Economic Observer. NWCL has made the list for its overall excellence in sustainability aspect and it is the only Hong Kong enterprise among the 11 awarded multinational and China corporations.
The evaluation was based on six aspects, namely environmental responsibility, responsibility management, social responsibility, model innovation, market responsibility and public cognition. The judging panel remarked that NWCL has been devoted to sustainability development and proactively promoted various charitable and community programmes; taking low carbon environmental protection and sustainable development as the corporate strategies, NWCL has incorporated green design into its high quality projects. There are nine projects of the Group which have attained LEED Gold Certification or Pre-certification from the US Green Building Council.
As a city builder, NWCL does not only focus on sustainable urban community development, but also attaches great importance in building harmonious living in communities while paying tribute to local culture and caring for the underprivileged. Over the years, NWCL has cooperated with international charities and carried out various charitable projects on environmental protection, community libraries and farmhouse rebuild in poverty-stricken areas.
In 2013, NWCL signed an agreement with Habitat for Humanity whereby a total of RMB672,000 was donated for the farmhouse reconstruction for 40 impoverished farmers in Sichuan and Guangdong provinces. The Group has also launched the nationwide activity, “New World.City Trace Memories – A Tribute to Intangible Cultural Heritage in China”, to heighten the public’s interest in traditional culture. Besides, NWCL set up New World Volunteer Team, the first developer’s corporate volunteer team in Mainland China, in 2007. Currently, over 900 volunteers are spread in dozens of cities in China and the service hours of the volunteers exceeded 2,000 hours in 2013.
“Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking in China” is initiated by The Economic Observer, and supported by Enterprise Research Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and several business schools. This award is aim at honouring the eminent corporations which excel in corporate social responsibility area.
