(29 March 2014, Hong Kong) New World China Land Limited (“NWCL”; Stock Code: 917. HK), together with its nearly 50 property projects in 22 cities around the country, has fully supported the “Earth Hour” which is organised by WWF for the sixth consecutive year. NWCL joined hands with over 100 million people around the world to turn off non-essential lights for one hour at 8:30 p.m. on 29 March 2014, demonstrating its dedication to environment protection and sustainable development.
Apart from turning off illumination equipment and landscape lighting including neon lights of its commercial property buildings for one hour during the event, NWCL also encouraged its employees, New World Volunteer Team, and over 100,000 community owners and tenants to support and participate in the event. On 29 March 2014, NWCL’s property projects including well-known landmarks such as Beijing New World Center, Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, Wuhan New World Center, Dalian Manhattan Tower, and several large-scale residential projects such as Shenyang New World Garden, Chengdu New World Riverside, and Guangzhou Central Park-view were involved in the event. In addition, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Avenue of Stars, Hong Kong K11 Art Mall, etc. which are under the management of New World Group also participated in this meaningful event.
Focusing on the smog pollution in China, WWF names “The Blue Sky Project” as the theme of the “Earth Hour” 2014 in China in order to raise the awareness of the climate change. NWCL fully supported the event and organised various activities in its operated communities. Activities such as “Air-purifier DIY” workshop, seminar about environmental protection, green competition for staff, smoke-free candlelight dinner party, low carbon walk, “unplugged concert”, etc were held for the staff and public in different cities of China. The New World Volunteer Team also promoted “The Blue Sky Project” in their own communities and call for joint effort in environmental protection.
NWCL has long been dedicated to the sustainable development of the environment and society, it attaches great importance to low carbon and environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as building environment-friendly and high-quality space and residences. There are nine projects of the Group which have attained LEED Gold Certification or Pre-certification from the US Green Building Council. Moreover, NWCL brings the concept of sustainable development to communities, it has a long tradition in joining hands with various charitable organisations and supporting programmes such as environmental protection activity, establishment of community library, and farmhouse construction in poverty-stricken areas.
“Earth Hour” is the one of the largest environmental movements initiated by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007. The event is held worldwide to encourage the public to turn off their non-essential lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of March. It aims at making a change concerning environmental protection and to mobilise the public to protect the environment. Currently, the event has grown from a symbolic event in one city into a global movement.
